Biography
Salma completed her BA in Architectural Engineering at the American University in Cairo in 2016. She then carried out a two-year research project on the urban and architectural discourse of corporate Architecture in Cairo's New Cities. In 2020 she graduated from an MSc Management in Built Environment at Delft University of Technology. In her , using mixed methods of data harvesting, analytics and spatial correlation analysis, she developed strategies of urban competitiveness of metropolitan regions in emerging economies. Salma is a multidisciplinary urbanist with six years of experience in project management, risk and resilience, academia and analysis. Her work experience spans architecture and urban planning, policy analysis, urban economics, real estate finance, and the use of critical data studies for risk and resilience.

Research overview
Building on the interdisciplinary studies of digital geography, digital urbanism, spatial analysis, and spatial theory, my research develops a methodological framework for capturing the spatial implications of policy on urban life. Through a comparative case study of COVID-19 crisis policies in Amsterdam and London, I examine how centring space as the primary object of enquiry transforms what policy interventions can produce spatially, and how that transformation can be made systematically legible. The framework integrates morphometric analysis, network accessibility, and demographic stress weighting across spatial and temporal scales, generating comparative insights into how the costs of crisis are structurally conditioned and differentially absorbed across urban contexts. My research sits at the intersection of spatial analysis, data-driven policy evaluation, and urban data science, with a particular focus on making analytical outputs accessible and actionable for policy cycles.
