Biography

Vangelis Pitidis is an Assistant Professor of Global Sustainable Development at IGSD, focusing on the intersection of urban resilience, governance and citizen science both in the Global North and in the Global South.His research is focused on urban resilience and its potential to transform the traditional pathways of urban governance delivery as well as in developing participatory methods for engaging local communities in disaster risk management, based on dialogical co-production methods. Among others, he is currently working on the EU HORIZON 2020 funded project , a project focused on bridging the Risk Perception and Action Gap (RPAG) between Civil Protection Authorities and local citizens.

Vangelis has previously worked in a number of interdisciplinary projects on building resilience and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in developing countries partiularly in Latin America and Africa. Prior to his current occupation, Vangelis has worked as a Research Fellow in the interdisciplinary project Waterproofing Data: Engaging Stakeholders in Sustainable Flood Risk Governance for Urban Resilience () and co-led of the associated UKRI GCRF Global Research Translation Award aiming to enhance flood resilience in two different communities in S茫o Paulo and Rio Branco (Acre), in Brazil. His interdisciplinary background, cutting across social sciences, urban planning, human geography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has helped him undertake a number of different roles in many developmental projects, including teaching and lecturing at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Vangelis is currently acting as the Impact Lead for the School of Cross-Faculty Studies and will be leading the ECR representative in the newly created Sustainability Spotlight Network Initiative based at the 神马福利影片.
