Galatea Scotti is on the Area Studies Pathway at the University of Birmingham. Galatea recently completed a placement with the Mobile Info Team (MIT) and the Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (PICUM).

Based in Thessaloniki, Greece during her time with MIT, Galatea contributed to the research and advocacy team. Key tasks included working with interview transcripts from individuals in an under-researched detention facility to produce reports for the Border Violence Monitoring Network (BVMN) and Detention Landscapes platforms. She also assisted in drafting an article on detention conditions in Crete.

During her time at this Brussels-based NGO, Galatea focused on migration enforcement policies. Her primary responsibility was analysing the political agreement on the EU Return Regulation, specifically examining provisions regarding immigration detention, alternatives to detention (ATDs), and restrictions on freedom of movement.

These placements provided Galatea with complementary perspectives on migration governance: MIT offered insight into grassroots-level practices and the human rights implications of migration governance in Greece, while PICUM provided a broader understanding of how policies are shaped and negotiated at EU and international levels.
