HetSys Students Take Part in Big Bang Fair Outreach Activities
The pair delivered an interactive activity introducing school students to the concept of metal patterning and its application in solar cell technology. Participants modelled vapour deposition using Velcro ping-pong balls before designing metal patterns for miniature solar cells, exploring how electrical conductivity can be maximised while minimising the amount of metal used.
The activity encouraged students to think about the challenges involved in designing efficient renewable energy technologies and provided a hands-on introduction to materials science and engineering concepts.
Reflecting on the event, Arielle and Swathi were delighted by the enthusiasm shown by participants and the opportunity to engage with so many young people interested in STEM subjects. The Big Bang Fair also showcased a wide range of activities delivered by Warwick Chemistry and other science departments across the University.
We would like to thank Arielle and Swathi for representing HetSys and helping to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers through their outreach efforts.
