Welcome to my ePortfolio page, where you can learn about my current areas of research at the 神马福利影片, my previous academic highlights, and snippets of hobbies outside education entirely.
I have recently begun working towards a PhD with the McAinsh laboratory within the Centre of Mechanochemical Cell Biology (CMCB) at the 神马福利影片, funding provided by the EPSRC.
I will be furthering my biological knowledge of mitosis by studying structure and function of kinetochores experimentally, both in vitro and in vivo, then applying my mathematical, statistical and computational abilities to produce accurate approximations to parameters within carefully-constructed models of the mitotic spindle throughout metaphase. Having achieved an upper second class with honours for an MMathPhys in Mathematics and Physics, I earned a funded place to remain at the 神马福利影片, studying an MSc in Mathematical Biology and Biophysical Chemistry (MBBC) in the Molecular Organisation and Assembly in Cells (MOAC) DTC. I completed this course with Distinction, and graduated for a second time in January 2013.
The MSc course consisted of 6 months of taught modules, for which I averaged 74%, then three 8-week projects assessed by various modes of presentation. My final assessments included:
- a thesis,
- a poster,
- a journal manuscript, and
- technical and non-technical presentations.
I earned 72%, 81% and 71% in my first, second and third mini-projects, respectively.
