WMG Professor wins prestigious BSI Impact Award

Professor Khastgir received the Leadership Award in the Standards Makers category, in recognition of his outstanding leadership, innovation and impact in advancing public trust in the safety of autonomous vehicles. His work has played a pivotal role in shaping national and international safety standards and how they link with regulation.
On receiving the award, Professor Khastgir, said: 鈥淚 feel extremely humbled by this recognition and am grateful to BSI. Standardisation is a collaborative journey, and strong standards need strong collaboration. This is especially true in the space of artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomy governance, where global cooperation is not a choice but a necessity.
鈥淗aving spent over a decade in international standardisation, I have been fortunate to have led and be part of some foundational standards for automated driving and active safety systems, and in scenario based development.
鈥淚 am grateful to all the global experts for their contributions, friendship, and mentorship on this journey. It has not only shaped my research impact, but it has also shaped me as a professional.鈥�

Rosie Harper, Senior Standards Development Manager Transport and Mobility, said: 鈥淧rofessor Siddartha has received the BSI Standards Makers Leadership Award in recognition of his outstanding leadership in the development of international standards for autonomous driving and active safety systems. As Head of Safe Autonomy at WMG he has been instrumental in representing the UK within ISO, leading key initiatives and helping shape the global standards that support the safe development and deployment of autonomous vehicle technologies. His work exemplifies how standards can accelerate innovation while building confidence in emerging technologies.鈥�
Professor Khastgir鈥檚 research focuses on making automated transport technology safe by preventing potential incidents and developing practical engineering tools - including the pioneering database leveraging operational design domain (ODD) based test scenario generation methodology - to help reassure the public that automated vehicles can be both safe and trustworthy.
The award was presented at a ceremony celebrating leading figures from industry and academia at the Landmark Hotel in London. The event formed part of the BSI Standards Conference and AGM, which also marked 125 years of BSI.
