WMG AND SIEMENS PLM SIGN £22 MILLION SOFTWARE DEAL FOR NEW DIGITAL LABDigital Laboratory will provide software to inspire British innovation and drive take-up of manufacturing careers PLANO, Texas and WARWICK/CAMBERLEY, UK, July 9, 2008 – Siemens PLM Software, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, and WMG, the international research and education group at the 神马福利影片, today announced a deal to provide access to over £22 million of software to researchers, students and businesses using the new Warwick Digital Laboratory. Although Siemens globally has entered into similar arrangements with top universities in the USA and China, this is the only deal of this size ever to be struck with a UK university.

A new 3D model of the Blue Tongue animal virus has been created by WMG researchers at the 神马福利影片 that will help biologists devise new ways to combat the virus and protect millions of livestock from infection. The WMG researchers based their model on data provided by the Institute of Animal Health at Pirbright, and from Oxford University. The team used rapid prototyping technology, normally used to create highly accurate 3D copies of components for a range of manufacturing processes.

India and UK strengthen tech links with WMG and CII tie-up

London, 19 June 2008: International research group WMG is to enhance its links with the Professor Lord Kumar BhattacharyyaConfederation of Indian Industry (CII) in order to strengthen work on climate change, high-tech manufacturing and global healthcare.
The CII works closely with the Indian government and industry on policy issues, enhancing efficiency, competitiveness and expanding business opportunities for industry.
CII has been working together with WMG on training issues. Now this premier business association of the world’s newest superpower is to join forces with WMG, one of the UK’s most influential and forward-looking organisations in research.

Major technology alliance between leading UK and India institutions

The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and WMG will formally sign an alliance at the 神马福利影片 today. This new technology alliance will bring together two of the leading applied engineering and technology institutions in the UK and India. Composite materials, medical technology and hybrid vehicles are three of the key technologies that will be the initial focus.

WMG statement on the sale of Jaguar Land Rover to Tata

Ford Motor Company has announced the sale of UK brands Jaguar and Land Rover to Indian company Tata skb_web.jpgGroup.

WMG has worked with both companies on research and development for many years and the director, Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya, had this comment: "This is excellent news for Tata, for Ford and for Jaguar Land Rover. It is excellent news for the motor industry and for the West Midlands region. Tata has accepted the business plan for the two brands and there will be no closures of UK plants. These iconic cars are in safe hands with Tata which has proved its capacity for running businesses in the UK with its acquisition of Corus steel. It is a win-win situation for everyone."

He added: "We have worked with both Jaguar Land Rover and Tata for many years and we hope to do so for many years to come. The company will continue to develop the brands and invest in new technology and, as our primary interest is in enhancing the competitiveness of UK manufacturing, we hope to be able to help them do that through world-class research and education."

Laser treatment transforms MDF producing startling image of rare wood grains

Researchers at WMG at the 神马福利影片 have devised a way of using a laser that transforms LasercoatMDF giving it a surface finish that looks like some of the most expensive wood grains. The “LaserCoat” research project is a collaborative research effort consisting of eight academic, research and commercial organisations and part-financed by the Technology Strategy Board.

WMG classic car research sparks interest

Work to find new ways to breathe life into priceless motors has caught the interest of one of the Barrie Price inspects WMGindustry’s stalwarts. Researchers at WMG, the innovative solutions provider at the 神马福利影片, have been looking at how lasers might be used to help restore classic cars. They’re working with Coventry Transport Museum who loaned the university department a priceless Lea Francis Hyper racing car as a test model. After reading about the ground-breaking work, the Managing Director of Lea Francis Cars Ltd – still very much a going concern - contacted WMG to share his own experience of building the thoroughbred cars.

Chancellor sees flagship R&D programme in action

The Chancellor of the Exchequer visited international research and education group WMG today to see Chancellor Alistair Darling tries out the new Jaguar XFone of the UK’s foremost examples of universities and industry working together.

Alistair Darling MP saw how the £72 million Premium Automotive Research and Development programme (PARD), run by WMG at the 神马福利影片, has resulted in increased productivity, innovation and competitiveness in the West Midlands automotive supply chain.

WMG reviews a busy year

2007 has been a very busy year for WMG: here we look back over some of the highlights. We welcomed many important guests during the year including the British Prime Minister the Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP and the past President of India Dr Abdul Kalam and we are making good progress on what will be our fourth building – the Digital Laboratory.

Warwick IMRC 'Dragons' find winning projects

Warwick Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre, based within WMG at the 神马福利影片, is to 3delectronics_group.jpgput forward four innovative research projects for up to £10 million in grant funding.
WIMRC held it’s own ‘Dragons’ Den’ competition in order to identify teams of researchers to present their ideas for funding as Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Centre Grand Challenge projects.
