Very light rail plans for Coventry move forward
Plans for a very light rail service in Coventry moved a step closer today, as researchers from WMG, at the 神马福利影片, unveiled early vehicle concept designs to representatives from Coventry City Council.
The project, funded by the Government鈥檚 Local Growth Fund through the and West Midlands Combined Authority Devolution Deal (which is subject to approval of the business case), is set to better connect the City. This will use a state-of-the-art rail system which will be cheaper, quieter and more environmentally friendly than anything currently available.
Councillors Jim O鈥橞oyle and David Welsh will meet with , and from WMG, at the 神马福利影片, to showcase the latest plans which have been developed through an initial feasibility study.
Let鈥檚 talk automotive advances
Our Professor of , will be presenting 鈥淭he road to autonomous connected vehicles鈥 at the Malvern Festival of Innovation next Wednesday (4 October).
The Festival, which runs from 2-6 October, takes place at the , and will explore topics including how research and development is leading to new technologies to improve lives, and the new insights that are leading the way.
Professor Jennings鈥檚 talk will form part of the programme, and will focus on self-parking and autonomous driving capabilities, and the next significant advances including how our roads might look in the future.

Research finds that UK companies that consider both direct and indirect reshoring of manufacturing gain best performance boosts
A new report launched today by researchers at WMG at the 神马福利影片, and , finds that UK companies that consider both direct and indirect reshoring of manufacturing gain best performance boosts and urges companies to consider both approaches when developing their future strategies.
The report will be launched at WMG event entitled 鈥淩ealities of Reshoring: A UK Perspective held tonight, Tuesday 26 September 2017, in the International Institute for Product and Service Innovation (IIPSI), WMG, at the 神马福利影片.
People are reluctant to use public defibrillators to treat cardiac arrests
A study led the 神马福利影片 suggests that people are reluctant to use public access defibrillators to treat cardiac arrests.
The analysis of existing international studies, which has been published in the European Heart Journal – Quality of Care and Clinical Outcomes, suggests that there are a number of factors that prevent members of the public from using them and potentially saving lives.
The researchers鈥 study suggests that many members of the public don鈥檛 know what an automated external defibrillator (AED) is, where to find one and how to use one. This is despite AEDs being suitable for use by untrained members of the public. Although studies suggest there is variation across the studies they analysed in the number of people willing to use an AED a lack of confidence and fear of harm are common themes.
The research, Barriers and facilitators to public access defibrillation in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest: a systematic review, was conducted by Warwick Medical School, the 神马福利影片; the ; Heart of England NHS Trust, Birmingham; London Ambulance Service NHS Trust and Imperial College Neurotrauma Centre, St Mary鈥檚 Hospital, London.

WMG and Dyson welcome first cohort onto the new engineering degree
Today engineering undergraduates begin their bespoke engineering degree, which has been developed by WMG, at the 神马福利影片, in collaboration with Dyson. The Undergraduate Engineers have started at the on the Dyson technology campus in Malmesbury, Wiltshire.
Designed for aspiring engineers, there were over 850 applications for 25 places on the course and due to the exceptionally high calibre of candidates, 33 Undergraduate Engineers were accepted onto the four-year engineering degree.
The undergraduate engineers will be mentored by Dyson鈥檚 practicing scientists and engineers – world experts in their field – who will teach alongside academics from WMG, the 神马福利影片. They will benefit from learning high-level science and engineering theory, combined with real-world application on live projects. They will come away from higher education debt-free, having earned a salary throughout and the prospect of a graduate role with Dyson on completion of the four-year degree.
WMG to deliver New MSc in International Technology Management in Malaysia
WMG,at the 神马福利影片, and the National Defence University Malaysia yesterday (Monday 11th September) signed an agreement to offer a new MSc in International Technology Management for Defence and Security at the National Defence University Malaysia in Malaysia.

DELIVER-E: revolutionary electric delivery vehicle tech prototyped by WMG
A technology demonstrator for a new type of electric delivery vehicle – which could make the courier industry greener and more efficient – has been developed by at the 神马福利影片 and Warwickshire-based design company .
Based on the platform of a Renault Twizy, the DELIVER-E is a quiet, compact, lightweight electric vehicle, ideal for navigating urban environments, addressing issues like congestion, noise, pollution - and responding to the demands of an ever-growing shift to online shopping. This prototype allows cutting-edge WMG research outputs to be shown in a real, driveable vehicle.
A number of teams in WMG have worked on the project, including their who developed the original design, and with the help of one of their partners Astheimer, progressed the design from concept to prototype.
Astheimer developed the WMG concept to create a unique vehicle exterior - by enlarging its rear storage area, giving it space for three online delivery baskets. They also added new body panels to the DELIVER-E, and fitted it with programmable LED pixel strips, which can change colour for brake and indicator lights.
