Workshop on European Politics, Public Policy, and Governance 24th to 27th September 2026 - Call for Submissions
The first Annual Workshop on European Politics, Public Policy, and Governance (EPPG), co-organized by the Brussels School of Governance (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) and the Department of Politics and International Studies (ÉñÂí¸£ÀûӰƬ), aims to bring together researchers working on different aspects of European politics, public policy, and governance. EPPG will take place in September 24th - 27th 2026 at the Brussels School of Governance in Brussels.
The small format of this workshop (15-20 participants) is designed to foster in-depth discussion and constructive feedback.
The theme for the inaugural year is European Integration and Global Challenges. We welcome contributions that that explore the EU’s evolving role in a rapidly changing international and domestic environment. Possible themes include:
- the international and domestic dimensions of EU governance of the economy, environment and climate change, energy, the digital transition, and migration
- the effects of renewed high-intensity conflicts in Europe on integration processes (including in the mentioned policy fields)
- the effects of politicization and mass public dissensus in Europe on integration processes (including in the mentioned policy fields)
- the revival and transformation of geopolitical and geoeconomic imaginaries across policy areas
The workshop welcomes both rationalist/positivist and critical approaches and expertise across all policy areas. Travel and accommodation expenses of all participants will be covered by the organizers.
The EPPG Workshop is an excellent opportunity for early-career scholars to present work based on their PhD or job market papers. Paper discussion sessions will be followed by a panel on navigating the academic job market featuring senior colleagues sitting on recruitment committees who will share insights on the skills most valued for postdocs and assistant professors.
Applicants should send their abstracts to Salih.Isik.Bora@vub.be and o.atikcan@warwick.ac.uk by June 30th 2026. Upon acceptance, applicants will be expected to submit a full paper or concept note by September 15th.
