Academic Square Pond
Please be aware that blue-green algae is present in the pond at Academic Square.
Blue-green algae is a collection of microscopic organisms that are naturally present in lakes and streams and under certain conditions can become abundant in warm, shallow, undisturbed, nutrient-rich surface waters that receive a lot of sunlight. Just like our pond in Academic Square.
The Estates team are aware of the problem and treatment works will be taking place from Tuesday 19 August to rectify the situation. The works are expected to take around three weeks and should help the overall health of the pond and start to build a good balance over the coming years. All treatments will not affect wildlife.
Blue-green algae is potentially toxic to both humans and animals, please stay away from the water while the works take place.
