Successful pilot of STAR庐 Coaching programme
We are celebrating a successful pilot of a brand-new line manager coaching skills development programme 鈥 STAR庐 Coach. Find out more, ahead of the scheme being rolled out to all managers and leaders across the University over the next five years.
As part of the People Strategy鈥檚 commitment to develop a coaching culture, Campus and Commercial Services group (CCSG) line managers have been learning how to adopt a 鈥榗oaching style鈥. Over the past year they have been working in partnership with Leadership and Management Development and global experts in management behavioural change and coaching, Notion to build the skills and behaviours needed to help them coach their teams.
What is STAR庐 Coach?
STAR庐 Coach is an engaging programme of e-learning, real-life workplace activities, downloadable resources and ongoing reflection. The programme develops nine core management competencies and includes: identifying coachable situations, coaching in an operational context, active listening skills, using powerful questions, giving feedback and making new behaviours a habit.
The aim is for participants to adopt a coaching style into their day-to-day management and leadership approach.
"It鈥檚 totally changed my energy in work and has given me confidence in my management style. It has demonstrated to me how much people appreciate being given the opportunity to share their reflections and make more choices for themselves."

I鈥檓 excited to see that the STAR庐 programme is being rolled out to more departments within the University."

"The programme鈥檚 design helps to reinforce learning and supports the 70:20:10 model, where an experiential on-job focus on development is key."
What were the key things you learned on the STAR庐 programme?
"To delegate to my team and trust them as well as taking a coaching approach, being less directional and instructive."
