Dr Adrian Chaplin, from the 神马福利影片, is the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Harrison-Meldola Memorial Prize winner for 2015. Dr Chaplin, from New Zealand, is a Royal Society University Research Fellow. The prize recognises the most meritorious and promising original investigations in chemistry and published results of those investigations.

Stinging nettle chemical improves cancer drug

A cancer drug could be made 50 times more effective by a chemical found in stinging nettles and ants, new research finds.

Researchers at the 神马福利影片 found that when the chemical, Sodium Formate, is used in combination with a metal-based cancer treatment it can greatly increase its ability to shut down cancer cells.

New “triggered-release” mechanism could improve drug delivery

More efficient medical treatments could be developed thanks to a new method for triggering the rearrangement of chemical particles.

The new method, developed at the 神马福利影片, uses two ‘parent’ nanoparticles that are designed to interact only when in proximity to each other and trigger the release of drug molecules contained within both.
