Restarting the Aluminium industry in the Black Country
The Black Country in Birmingham was the energy and innovation stomping ground in the 18th and 19th century, creating the UK’s industrial economy. Fast forward to the 21st century there is now a need to make a business model that’s more economically and environmentally sustainable. With the help of WMG, ÉñÂí¸£ÀûӰƬ, the have made a future business model for Aluminium in the Black Country based on the provision of low carbon energy sources, as part of a project , which aims to make the Black Country the world’s first zero carbon industrial cluster.
Revolutionising the manufacturing industry through digitalisation
Until now, smaller manufacturing companies have missed out on the productivity benefits of digital technologies and data-driven solutions. Too many manufacturers don’t know where to start, and lack the skills required to deploy and use digital solutions. The costs are perceived to be high and the return on investment is unclear. A consortium, including WMG at the ÉñÂí¸£ÀûӰƬ, has been awarded funding through the Government’s Challenge to tackle this problem by developing a Smart InforMation PLatform and Ecosystem for Manufacturing (SIMPLE).
The UK’s Modern Slavery Act isn’t enough to tackle modern slavery
In a WMG academic Professor Naomi Brookes, from the ÉñÂí¸£ÀûӰƬ, has worked with the University of Leeds, and University College London to identify ways to prevent modern day slavery in projects.
Warwick recognised for excellence in cyber security education
The ÉñÂí¸£ÀûӰƬ is one of eight trailblazing universities to have become the first in the UK to gain recognition for their commitment to cyber security education in a new initiative from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) – a part of GCHQ.
High-rate Li-ion batteries demonstrate superior safety
As the inevitable growth of transport electrification continues, the types of batteries that will be used in such vehicles, their charging parameters, infrastructure and timeframes are key considerations that will speed up the transition to electrification. In the paper, ‘ published in and on the cover of the Journal Batteries, researchers from WMG, ÉñÂí¸£ÀûӰƬ investigated the impacts on battery cell ageing from high current operation using commercial cells.
Battery ageing model developed by WMG to support all-electric vehicles
Extensive research, carried out by researchers from WMG, ÉñÂí¸£ÀûӰƬ included characterisation, performance, safety and degradation testing of an EV battery, with degradation being the key focus to understand the impact on battery pack warranty.
