The milkweed bug’s orange wings and DNA: how insects’ diets are revealed by the genome

An international collaboration of researchers, including from the School of Life Sciences at the ÉñÂí¸£ÀûӰƬ, have sequenced the genome of the milkweed bug, enabling scientists to understand at the molecular level what makes the bug, from its colourful development to its toxic diet.

New technique to make transparent polythene films as strong as aluminium that could be used in impact resistant glazing, windscreens, and displays

Research led by Professor Ton Peijs of WMG at the ÉñÂí¸£ÀûӰƬ and Professor Cees Bastiaansen at Queen Mary University of London, has devised a processing technique that can create transparent polythene film that can be stronger as aluminium but at a fraction of the weight, and which could be used use in glazing, windscreens, visors and displays in ways that add strength and resilience while reducing weight.


Salmonella could be combated by enhancing body’s natural process

Autophagy – the process of recycling cellular material in the body, can help combat Salmonella and other pathogens according to researchers at the School of Life Sciences, ÉñÂí¸£ÀûӰƬ who have studied how autophagy can get rid of bacteria, and prevent diseases developing.

Warwick Mathematical Scientist wins prize for display in Parliament

Francesca Crucinio, a researcher from the Department of Statistics at the ÉñÂí¸£ÀûӰƬ struck Bronze at a competition in the House of Commons, for the excellence of her mathematical research, walking away with the £750 Bronze prize.

Carbon dioxide to fuel cars and make rural farm fertilisers thanks to £9m ERC funding

A ÉñÂí¸£ÀûӰƬ researcher, Prof. Evgeny Rebrov, together with members of an international team, has won a £9 million ERC Synergy grant SCOPE to study the effect of fast temperature modulations in chemical reactors to improve the efficiency of current technologies utilising cold plasma.
