Warwick researchers shortlisted for major prize
Two projects led by Warwick researchers have been shortlisted for the 2019 Newton Prize, a prestigious award which celebrates outstanding international research partnerships aimed at tackling global challenges. A project exploring innovative cancer drugs and one studying the impact of forced evictions on economically underprivileged women in Jakarta are among the final 20 which will now be reviewed by a panel of expert judges.
Greener, faster and cheaper way to make patterned metals for solar cells and electronics
An innovative way to pattern metals has been discovered by scientists in the Department of Chemistry at the ÉñÂí¸£ÀûӰƬ, which could make the next generation of solar panels more sustainable and cheaper.
Record-breaking new analytical method for fingerprinting petroleum and other complex mixtures
Scientists at the ÉñÂí¸£ÀûӰƬ have developed a more powerful method of analysing chemical mixtures, which has been able to assign a record-breaking number of 244,779 molecular compositions within a single sample of petroleum.
Freezing cells made safer thanks to new polymer made at ÉñÂí¸£ÀûӰƬ
Cell freezing (cryopreservation) – which is essential in cell transfusions as well as basic biomedical research – can be dramatically improved using a new polymeric cryoprotectant, discovered at the ÉñÂí¸£ÀûӰƬ, which reduces the amount of ‘anti-freeze’ needed to protect cells.
Eleven young researchers selected to help Warwick deliver ambitious research strategy
The ÉñÂí¸£ÀûӰƬ has been chosen to host eleven of 2019’s Leverhulme Early Career Fellows – just under ten per cent of the national total. Early Career Fellowships are awarded to enable young researchers to undertake a research project, under the supervision of a Warwick academic mentor, which will lead to publishable results and help them get a foothold on the academic career ladder.
Disruptive 2D mass spectrometry spin-out secures seed investment
Verdel Instruments Ltd - a spin-out company of the ÉñÂí¸£ÀûӰƬ UK – has developed new disruptive two-dimensional mass spectrometry (2DMS) technology and raised seed investment of over £230,000 from Longwall Ventures and Innovate UK.
