An event created in collaboration with the ifo Institute, ETH Zurich, CAGE, and the ��ӰƬ.

The trade-offs between freedom of choice, speech, and political expression on one side, and societal welfare on the other, continue to challenge policymakers seeking to regulate digital platforms. This workshop focuses on recent advances in research on the design, regulation, and user benefits of digital platforms, as well as their broader societal implications. It will examine a wide range of platforms—including social media, streaming services, dating apps, digital marketplaces, and AI‑powered tools—and aims to inform policy debates across multiple contexts, with particular attention to the intersection of platform regulation and politics. The workshop also seeks to advance research methodologies for studying digital platforms, especially the role of AI tools.

Congratulations to all our students who will be graduating this summer.

On Tuesday 28th July, our Undergraduate and Postgraduate students will be awarded their degrees at their graduation ceremony which will take place at 11am in Butterworth Hall (Warwick Arts Centre).

Later in the day, graduates along with their family and friends are invited to join academic and administrative staff from the Department of Economics to celebrate their graduation success and achievements for a lunchtime reception of drinks, food and music, taking place at 12:30pm-3:00pm in the Panorama Suite, Rootes Building.

"It has been a real privilege to see you grow and develop during your time in the Department of Economics at Warwick, and I want to say how proud we are of all you have achieved. Each of you has contributed to the distinct character of our department—bringing curiosity to your studies, rigour to your thinking, and generosity to the community around you.

Graduation is a special milestone. It marks not only the end of your degree, but also the many challenges you have taken on and the resilience you have shown in meeting them. I hope you take a moment to reflect on all of that, and to celebrate it fully. As you move on, you do so as Warwick economists: equipped not just with knowledge and technical skills, but with a way of thinking about the world that will serve you in many different paths. We are pleased to be holding ASREC Europe at the Warwick Venice Centre in Venice/Italy on Friday 25th Sept and Sat 26th Sept 2026. Tickets will include lunch on Friday and Saturday and the conference dinner on Friday evening, as well as coffee breaks. The full conference fee is 200 British Pounds and the reduced rate (for PhD students only) is 100 British Pounds. Registration is only for those who have been invited to present a paper at the conference or those who have explicit approval from the organizers (Sascha O.
