A46 Stoneleigh Junction Improvement Scheme: Upcoming planned road closures

UPDATE 29/05/2026: The closure scheduled for the 30th and 31st May 2026 has been postponed and work will be done when the road is scheduled to close at the end of June.

We would like to inform staff and students of upcoming road closures as part of the A46 Stoneleigh Junction Improvement Scheme.

To safely carry out essential works, Stoneleigh Road bridge over the A46 will be closed on the following dates:

26th and 29th June 2026
3rd and 6th July 2026
25th and 26th July 2026

A signed diversion route will be in place during these closures (see image below).

These works are being carried out to support improvements to the A46 Stoneleigh Junction and may impact journeys to and from campus. Please allow additional travel time and plan your route accordingly.

Gibbet Hill Road Closure – Bus Diversions (30th – 31st May)

Due to essential works by National Grid Electricity Distribution, Gibbet Hill Road will be closed between Kirby Corner Road and Lord Bhattacharyya Way on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st May.

As a result, several bus services will be diverted or terminated early.

Service 11

Services towards the University, Leamington and Coventry City Centre will divert via Kenilworth Road and Fletchamstead Highway.
Stops at Sir Henry Parkes Road, Kirby Corner Road and Gibbet Hill Road (Scarman Road) may not be served.
Please use the ��ӰƬ Bus Interchange as an alternative stop.

Service 12X

Service 12X will terminate at the ��ӰƬ Bus Interchange.
The section between the ��ӰƬ and Prior Deram Walk will not be served.

Services 14 and 14A

Services 14 and 14A will terminate at Kirby Corner Road.
Stops on Gibbet Hill Road and at the ��ӰƬ bus stop will not be served.
Alternative stops are Kirby Corner Road and Lynchgate Road (Cannon Park).

We apologise for any inconvenience caused while these essential works are completed.

Permit Office Closure: May Bank Holiday 2026

Please note, The Permit Office will be closed for the May Bank Holiday on Monday 25 May 2026, reopening on Tuesday 26 May 2026.

If you require a permit for Monday 25 May or Tuesday 26 May, please ensure your request is submitted no later than 12 noon on Tuesday 19 May 2026.

Parking system issue

We have identified an issue that briefly affected the campus parking system following the May Bank Holiday. We would like to reassure you that this is currently being addressed by our parking supplier, APCOA.

Due to a system error, some staff who parked on campus on Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 May may have been charged the general tariff rather than the staff tariff. Any identified overpayments will be refunded to your original payment method within 3 to 5 working days.

Estates excellence recognised with double success at AUDE Awards

Two Estates teams have been recognised at the 2026 AUDE Awards. The Interior Design, Furniture & Equipment (IDFE) team earned bronze for the AUDE Reaching Higher Award, thanks to its innovative Furniture and Equipment Donation Initiative.

The Estates Information and Systems (EIS) team took home silver for AUDE’s Estates/Facilities Team Award, having led on several digital transformation projects that have reshaped how the University manages space, assets, maintenance and campus navigation.

Roadworks on Gibbet Hill Road: 26 May - 31 May

Multi-way traffic lights will be in operation on Gibbet Hill Road, near the Varsity, between the Kirby Corner/Gibbet Hill Road roundabout and the Scarman Road/Gibbet Hill Road roundabout, to facilitate National Grid works.

The traffic lights will be in place from Tuesday 26 May to Friday 29 May. During this time, delays are expected, particularly at peak periods, and road users are advised to allow additional time for their journeys.

A full road closure of this section will then be in place over the weekend of Saturday 30 May and Sunday 31 May. Diversion routes will be in place and clearly signposted.

Please allow extra time for your journeys during these works.

Traffic lights on Westwood Heath Road: 11 May - 8 July

Stagecoach Bus Service Update: U1, U1A and U2

Stagecoach Bus Service Update: U1, U1A and U2

Stagecoach is introducing changes to bus services between the ��ӰƬ and Leamington Spa.

U1 will operate a revised route and timetable, extending to Warwick Gates (Peabody Way / Randall Close) in both directions.
A new U1A service will operate every 30 minutes between the University and Leamington Spa Hospital.
Combined, U1 and U1A will run approximately every 15 minutes during weekday term time.
U2 will be withdrawn and partly replaced by these changes.

Evenings and weekends: services will run every 30 minutes, with most daytime journeys extending to Warwick Gates.

Stagecoach have said these changes are being introduced to improve reliability, particularly during peak times.

With the recent increase in fuel costs, we wanted to remind colleagues of the range of bus services available for travelling to and from campus.

Local services provide frequent and reliable links between the University and surrounding areas, including Coventry, Kenilworth and Leamington Spa. Several operators, such as National Express Coventry and Stagecoach, run direct routes connecting key locations including the city centre, rail stations and nearby towns.

Some key highlights include:

Direct connections to Coventry, Kenilworth and Leamington Spa
Services stopping at the main University bus interchange
A variety of ticket options, including contactless and mobile payment
Discounted termly, monthly and annual passes

We understand that bus travel may not be suitable or accessible for everyone. However, for those able to use these services, it can offer a more cost‑effective and sustainable way to commute. We encourage colleagues to review the available ticket options, as flexible or pay‑as‑you‑go choices may better suit individual travel patterns.

Temporarily closure of the accessible bays by Engineering (Science Block F)

The accessible parking bays near Engineering (Science Block F) will be temporarily unavailable from 9th April to 20th April to allow essential roofing works to take place.

We recognise that these bays are important for many of our community. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the works and associated health and safety requirements, the bays will need to remain closed for the duration of this period. We will continue to work closely with the contractor and will look to reopen the bays earlier where it is safe and possible to do so.

Blue Badge holders are encouraged to use the service vehicle area adjacent to the existing accessible bays near Science Block A, where possible.

We understand this may cause inconvenience and appreciate your patience while these essential works are carried out.
