 bers to explore trans representation in Weimar-era film and visual cultu
 re. Participants will: Engage in discussions about archival and lost fil
 ms. Take part in creative exercises such as storyboarding and critical f
 abulation to explore historical materials. Collaborate with trans commun
 ity members to inform research methodologies and contribute to inclusive
  scholarship. Who can participate Researchers with an interest in film s
 tudies\, visual culture\, queer and trans histories\, or related fields.
  Trans or gender-diverse people who are interested in sharing their live
 d experience and contributing to research and creative discussions. Bene

 nd Q&A Peter Snowdon's film The Uprising (2013) – which J. Hoberman call
 ed a 'masterpiece of iPhone cinema' – coalesces YouTube videos from the 
 Arab revolutions. It shows the Arab Spring from the inside\, as it was e
 xperienced by citizens of Egypt\, Tunisia\, Syria\, Bahrain\, Libya\, an
 d Yemen – marking the first time that participants took it upon themselv
 es to film\, narrativize\, and broadcast their efforts to overthrow oppr
 essive regimes in real time. This movie and Snowdon's book The People Ar
 e Not an Image (Verso\, 2020) treat the phone camera as an extension mor
 e of the arm than of the eye\, examining what happens when film becomes 
 a direct tool of revolutionary action.

 p draw on Peter Snowdon's ongoing work on a film about the act of healin
 g as a physical and non-physical gesture. He will draw on both his work 
 of filming 'alternative' health practitioners (osteopaths\, Alexander te
 achers...)\, and his own recent training in the field\, making reference
  to how medicine\, illness\, and the healing arts have been represented 
 visually across time and space. The material will be framed to be of int
 erest not only to historians and practitioners of visual art and film\, 
 but also to anyone concerned with 'embodied inquiry'.
