hosting a series of Firs t-Year PhD Seminar Presentations\, delivered by current first-year docto ral researchers. These seminars provide an opportunity for first-year Ph D students to: Present their research proposals\, early findings\, or de veloping ideas Gain constructive feedback from academic staff and fellow researchers Develop key presentation and academic communication skills The seminars are designed to be supportive and developmental\, helping s tudents refine their research during the early stages of their PhD. Atte ndance is encouraged for staff and postgraduate researchers\, as the ser ies also offers a valuable opportunity for knowledge sharing and engagem ent across research areas within the department. Using choice experiments to estimate the monetary value of children and young people's time. Abstract: Time is one of the most important resources we have: it is limited\, valuable and it plays a rol e in many of the decisions we make every day. For various reasons\, esti mating a monetary value for people's time has become a quest for researc hers across different disciplines. While it is already difficult to put a price on an adult's time\, doing so for children and young people (CYP ) is a far greater challenge. In this talk\, I will give a 'whistle-stop tour' of a recent programme of research that looks into quantifying the value of CYP's time for use in health economic evaluations. I will summ arise completed work packages\, highlight ongoing activities\, and prese nt the first findings from discrete choice experiments that we carried o ut to 鈥榯ease out鈥 the value 鈥 in pounds and pennies 鈥 that CYP place on their time. Abstract: Fact-checks are gen erally effective at reducing the influence of misinformation. However\, people鈥檚 beliefs often return to pre-corrections levels over time鈥攁 phen omenon known as belief regression. Yet relatively few studies have exami ned how to preserve the effectiveness of fact-checks over a delay. In th is talk\, I will discuss two experiments examining whether pairing fact- checks with supporting graphs can increase their memorability and preser ve their effectiveness over time\, and whether active engagement is nece ssary for these benefits to emerge. Finally\, I will reflect on the prac tical implications of these findings for combatting the impacts of misin formation. Bio: Emily Spearing is a postdoctoral researcher at the Schoo l of Psychological Science at The University of Western Australia (UWA)\ , whose work focuses on memory\, decision-making and misinformation. She completed her PhD in Psychology at Warwick in 2022\, before working as a postdoctoral researcher in the Law School at the University of Exeter. Her research focuses on how people perceive\, encode\, and remember inf ormation in applied settings\, particularly the legal system. Her curren t research primarily examines how to reduce the influence of misinformat ion\, including the roles that visual content and artificial intelligenc e play in both amplifying and countering the spread of misinformation." Recent evidence\, including our own\, has shown that delaying presentation of the verb pr events the illusion (Chow et al.\, 2018\; Nakamura et al.\, 2024\; Stone & Rabovsky\, 2024). Liao et al. (2022) account for this delay effect by proposing that it allows time for thematic role assignment 鈥 a slow pro cess 鈥 to constrain initial\, fast verb predictions made via lexical ass ociation. In contrast\, we account for the delay effect via the SG model (Rabovsky et al.\, 2018) and propose that the delay allows time to reso lve initial conflict between lexical\, syntactic\, and thematic role cue s\, all of which are available immediately and processed simultaneously (Stone & Rabovsky\, 2024). These two accounts make the same predictions about N400 amplitude at the verb\, but they make different predictions a bout the activation of specific verbs. I will present evidence from a sp eeded lexical decision task in an attempt to distinguish between the acc ounts.
