The campus is a bird nursery!
Did you know that we have over 80 bird nest boxes on campus?
Even though the campus has a lot of natural habitats where birds can nest, we also give them a helping hand by installing appropriate nest boxes for a variety of species. You will see them on tree trunks, fences and buildings, and new ones are added every year such as these swift nest boxes.
Although not all of them are occupied every year, it is important not to disturb these nest boxes during the nesting season, as they might indeed contain little miracles like these blue tit chicks.
Gerard Ryan, from the Grounds and Gardens Team, is fascinated by birds and has been building wooden bird boxes for years. One of the nest boxes he put up housed this blue tit family this year and he was able to capture these photos.
