Dr. Anca Cretu is a historian of modern Europe working at the intersection of the history of east-central Europe and international history. She joined the History Department and the GHCC in 2024 as an Assistant professor in Modern European History.

Our very own Dr. Anca Cretu has been recently appointed co-editor of the Studies in Global History of Central and Eastern Europe series, with Central European University Press. Alongside Jill Massino (University of North Carolina Charlotte), Dr. Cretu will co-edit this breakthrough series showcasing novel and cutting-edge research that explores the history of Central and Eastern Europe through a transnational and global lens. Anca's previous publications include a monograph, Foreign Aid and State-building in Interwar Romania was published in 2024 with Stanford University Press, and an edited volume Humanitarian mobilization in Central and Eastern Europe (Manchester University Press, 2025).
