This Summer Term, students in Film & TV Studies have been busy with extra activities alongside their studies.

Dr Paula Bartley, Honorary Research Fellow, is a women鈥檚 historian and author of the new book, Trailblazers: The First Women Elected to Government, in which she uncovers remarkable stories about extraordinary women.

Trailblazers is published by A launch event was held at the Church of Saint Magnus-the-Martyr in London on 27 May 2026.

This 鈥媝resentation and workshop draw on Peter's ongoing work on a film about the act of healing as a physical and non-physical gesture. He will draw on both his work of filming 'alternative' health practitioners (osteopaths, Alexander teachers...), and his own recent training in the field, making reference to how medicine, illness, and the healing arts have been represented visually across time and space. The material will be framed to be of interest not only to historians and practitioners of visual art and film, but also to anyone concerned with 'embodied inquiry'.

On Thursday 18th June 2026, Dr Ian Farnell hosted a sell-out screening of The People's Emergency Briefing at the Warwick Arts Centre.

The UK faces a growing climate and nature emergency, yet most people have never been fully briefed on what it means for our lives, our economy and our future. sets out the risks facing the nation - and the credible, positive responses available - in a clear and accessible account designed for screenings in communities across the UK.

As well as organising and introducing the screening, Dr Farnell collaborated with members of the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust to lead a post-show discussion with attendees.

A third-year GSD PhD student recently presented his doctoral research at a prestigious political ecology conference.

Our Liberal Arts programme equips students with the essential skills valued by employers across diverse industries, as demonstrated by the wide range of careers our graduates pursue. Frances joined our first ever cohort of Liberal Arts students in 2016, and her final dissertation on improving sustainability in healthcare helped towards securing her role as a Net Zero Strategy Analyst for NHS England. We caught up with Frances to recount more of her experiences as an undergraduate, and how she believes a 2,000-year-old discipline like Liberal Arts is still relevant for helping students develop skills sought out by modern employers.

From 8-18th June the Dept of Classics/Ancient History will be hosting Dr Christina Williamson of the University of Groningen, as an IAS Visiting Fellow.

Christina is an ancient historian who uses a transdisciplinary approach, integrating landscape, material culture, and text to explore the meanings and uses of sanctuaries in antiquity.

CMPS is delighted to welcome Professor Tom Crick, Chief Scientific Advisor to DCMS to give this year's Annual Lecture - Why Culture Needs Science: Evidence, Expertise and the Public Value of DCMS. The event will also mark the launch of the University's inter-disciplinary Cultural Policy Network, hosted in SCAPVC.

Eva鈥檚 commitment, perseverance and passion have led her to this incredible milestone, and we鈥檙e so proud to now call her Dr. Van Kemenade. Congratulations, Eva — what an achievement!

During a year of research leave, Prof. Beat K眉min has investigated the phenomenon of depositing chronicles and objects into tower spheres on top of prominent buildings like churches, town halls and fortifications. Documented from the Middle Ages to the present, seemingly only in and around territories of the erstwhile Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation, the custom provides fascinating insights into how local societies saw themselves and what they wished to pass on to successive generations. The project, supported by the German Gerda Henkel Foundation, has so far identified over 1600 sites and thousands of separate deposits (at one Zurich church, there were no fewer than 20 between 1505 and 1996). The funder has just released a video series of six episodes (accessible in both English and German) documenting field work in Switzerland in autumn 2003.

Our very own Dr. Anca Cretu has been recently appointed co-editor of the Studies in Global History of Central and Eastern Europe series, with Central European University Press. Alongside Jill Massino (University of North Carolina Charlotte), Dr. Cretu will co-edit this breakthrough series showcasing novel and cutting-edge research that explores the history of Central and Eastern Europe through a transnational and global lens. The editor team is currently accepting proposals!
