IATL Workshop on Movement for Staff and Students

Open to all Warwick staff members and students, this workshop was informed by the student-focussed IATL Workshop on Movement held on 1 November and aimed to establish an interdisciplinary discussion between academics and students on the basic ideas of ‘movement’, ‘motion capture’, and the ‘function’ of the human body. During the workshop an outline of these ideas and how they are understood and perceived from different disciplines was presented by experts on the subject. One of the main aims of the day was to see how this collaboration from all disciplines can contribute to interdisciplinary movement pedagogies and transdisciplinary pedagogy more broadly. An overview of the student-focussed workshop and its outcomes was given, and simple hands-on exercises were performed. To conclude, those present: i) reflected on what was presented during the day, ii) considered how interdisciplinary methods enable students and academics to broaden their understanding of ideas and topics, and iii) examined how a cross-faculty environment can enable academics to transcend methodological boundaries and, over time, achieve better pedagogic outcomes for Warwick students.
