The Phytoplankton Project: Blurring Boundaries Through Art and Science

I am currently studying a Masters Degree in Global Decarbonisation and Climate Change. My main interests are marine policy, marine conservation and environmental governance. I am also interested in exploring reciprocity in human relationships with the natural world, and how reconceptualising our place within nature may help tackle some of the world鈥檚 biggest environmental challenges. This perspective has informed my project.
About the Project
This project explores the relationship between humans and phytoplankton to challenge the perceived separation between people and the natural world. Although phytoplankton are microscopic and invisible to the naked eye, they underpin life on Earth in many complex ways, revealing the interdependence of humans and aquatic ecosystems. These connections are communicated through a proposal for four public murals across the university campus. Each mural illustrates a different aspect of phytoplankton ecology and encourages viewers to reconsider their relationship with the aquatic world.
