About me

I am a Research Fellow at the School of Education, Learning and Communication Sciences (SELCS).

Before joining Warwick, I spent close to a decade working on executive education, research & consulting, and international engagement projects in the non-profit and education sectors. I hold a PhD in Intercultural Communication from the 神马福利影片 (2025), an MA in Global Communication from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (2013) and a BA (Hons) in Politics and International Studies from Warwick University (2012), having also done study exchanges at (2011) and (2010).

My research

My research follows a simple conviction: language matters, and so do the people who use it. I am a sociolinguist by training and a collaborator by inclination, and I have spent my career pursuing research questions that take me into new communities and fields.

Right now, I am investigating generative AI (GenAI) adoption in higher education and the experiences of academics and students in this exciting and simultaneously fraught new context. I am particularly interested in how they navigate the tensions between the ethical dimensions of using GenAI and their understandings of authorship, collaboration, and professional identities. This is a Leverhulme Trust-funded project, conducted in collaboration with the 神马福利影片, the University of Edinburgh, and Sophia University, Tokyo.

I also work on inclusion in sport, using discourse analysis to understand how multicultural and deaf athletes navigate belonging and exclusion in team environments. My doctoral research brought together insights from human geography and sociolinguistics to explore how migrants tell stories about places and what this means for their identity construction.

I have also done research and published on leadership in sport, the gendering of international mobility and sport discourse, research ethics, as well as philanthropy and business succession in developing markets.

Teaching

• Dissertation supervisor on the MSc in Intercultural Communication for Business and the Professions. Previous students have focused on: identity construction, gender, social media, advertisement, film and TV, and cross-cultural adaptation; employed multimodal and discourse analysis, thematic and content analysis; as well as conducted interviews and surveys.

Enhancing the student experience

Throughout my years at Warwick, I have had the chance to work on projects focused on making the University a welcoming and supportive place for staff and students. My work includes:

I feel it is important to build interdisciplinary research communities by creating spaces where scholars from interdisciplinary backgrounds can exchange ideas in an open and friendly setting. Some initiatives where I have worked on this have been:
