Identifying health inequalities across workers

What inequalities in work-related ill health exist by type of worker, occupation, sector and UK region?

This part of the project is looking at differences in job quality between groups of people, for example by age or income. We focus on health inequalities generally and specifically in relation to Manchester and the hospitality sector.

Large public datasets (including ) are being used to build a new combined dataset that links information with long-term data on people’s health and other life factors. Using the new dataset, we will create models to map job quality and health across the UK. These maps will show how job quality varies by type of worker, industry, occupation, and region, based on seven key features of ‘good work’, they will provide a better understanding of job-related health inequalities.

People with real-life experience of poor quality work will be involved throughout the project as our Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP). They will shape how the research is designed, understood, and shared, ensuring it reflects real-world experiences and impacts on health and wellbeing.
