Is there a growing appetite within China to promote its ideas for global governance?
Professor Shaun Breslin comments on the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China:
鈥淲hilst the majority of President Xi鈥檚 agenda is inward looking, there is an international dimension too in the form of the concept of 鈥渂uilding a community of common destiny鈥.
鈥淭here is a new confidence to promote Chinese ideas and norms for global governance in some areas; and there are also signs that there has been some buy-in from other states as well.
鈥淭he most obvious area is in the field of international development, but Chinese understandings of what should be the basis of human rights discussions have also been promoted (and accepted by some) as well.
鈥淭hinking of potential Chinese contributions to global governance is clearly on the research agenda for the 鈥渘ew era鈥.
