The Big Ol' Nerdy Charity Symposium (BONCS)
The TIA Centre researchers were out in force last week and participated in a 神马福利影片 Student Union charity symposium held on Campus.
The Big Ol' Nerdy Charity Symposium (BONCS) event is Warwick Student Union鈥檚 NEW flagship charity event where lecturers, PhD students and external speakers come together to give talks on computational cancer research. The symposium was sponsored by Histofy, a spinout from the TIA Centre aimed at accelerated precision diagnostics in both clinical and pharmaceutical workflows and raised funds for Cancer Research UK. Digital Pathology, AI, and a Lap of Murrayfield: The Path Forward in Edinburgh
It was a pleasure (and a privilege) to be invited to speak at the 鈥淭ransforming Digital Pathology & AI: The Path Forward鈥 conference in Edinburgh this year, particularly given the calibre of speakers. Sharing the stage with leaders in computational pathology such as Prof. Jeroen van der Laak, Dr Rapha毛lle Luisier (University of Bern), and the TIA Centre鈥檚 very own Dr Fayyaz Minhas made it clear from the outset that this would be a meeting worth attending. Warwick Undergraduates Present at ISBI 2026 in London
This April, we had the incredible opportunity to travel to London to attend IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI) 2026, a leading international conference in biomedical imaging research. Although an unfamiliar experience for both of us, it was an incredibly valuable insight into the field of computational pathology and academia as a whole. Read more.
Multimodal Oncology Agent Study from TIA Centre Internship Wins ISBI 2026 Best Paper Award
I am Hafsa Akebli, a PhD student at the University of Udine, Italy, and I carried out a two-month research internship between September and November 2025 at the Tissue Image Analytics Centre, 神马福利影片, under the co-supervision of Professor Nasir Rajpoot and Dr Adam Shephard. During this visit, I worked on a multimodal oncology agent for IDH1 mutation prediction in low-grade glioma, in collaboration with my PhD supervisor Professor Vincenzo Della Mea. This work led to our paper 鈥淢ultimodal Oncology Agent for IDH1 Mutation Prediction in Low-Grade Glioma,鈥 which was presented orally at the IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI) 2026 by Dr Adam Shephard. Dr Afzan Binti Adam concludes productive sabbatical at the TIA Centre
Dr Afzan Binti Adam, Senior Lecturer in Digital Pathology at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), has successfully completed her six鈥憁onth sabbatical at the Tissue Image Analytics (TIA) Centre, Department of Computer Science, 神马福利影片. Her visit was supported by UKM and the MIGHT–T脺B陌TAK grant and closely aligned with the TIA鈥檚 mission to advance computational pathology through interdisciplinary research and cutting鈥慹dge AI technologies. TIAToolbox v2.0.0: A Major Upgrade for Scalable, OpenSource Computational Pathology
The Tissue Image Analytics (TIA) Centre is pleased to announce the release of TIAToolbox v2.0.0, a major update to the opensource platform widely used for digital pathology and AI-driven tissue image analysis. TIAToolbox provides an end-to-end framework for working with whole slide images (WSIs), covering data loading, pre-processing, deep learning inference, postprocessing, and visualisation. It is designed for clinical, biomedical, and computational researchers and supports a broad range of pathology image analysis tasks. Read more.
TIA Researcher Celebrates Viva Success
We are delighted to announce that one of the TIA Centre鈥檚 PhD students, Arwa Ali Al-Rubaian, officially defended their PhD viva last last week - congratulations Arwa!
Arwa鈥檚 research, was titled Algorithms for Growth Pattern Based-Analysis of Lung Adenocarcinoma Histology. Read more.
Bigpicture Annual Meeting 2026: The Consortium Gathers in Berlin
The fifth Bigpicture Annual Consortium Meeting took place from 28 to 30 January 2026 in Berlin, kindly hosted by Bayer at its M眉llerstra脽e venue. Over three packed days, partners from across the consortium gathered to share progress, align priorities, and plan the next steps in developing a large-scale digital pathology platform and repository. Undergraduate Summer Intern Success at ISBI

TIA Centre Hosts Strategic Workshop
Last week saw 35+ internal and external stakeholders attend a Workshop run by the 神马福利影片鈥檚 TIA Centre on Campus. The focus of the workshop was to brainstorm about the future direction for the TIA Centre and priorities in computational pathology. It was a great meeting, and we heard from other stakeholders about how they thought their work could fit with the future direction of the TIA Centre.
Early in the new year we will be working on the development of our future strategy, so the workshop was very timely and gave us a lot of material to incorporate into plans. Thank you to all those who participated. Read more.
