A Webinar Series to Connect Academics and Practitioners
Organised by the Social Sciences Connect Programme team, this webinar series is bringing together Social Scientists from across the Faculty with practitioners to facilitate sharing of information and engagement between research and practice.
Topics span the whole range of the social sciences, with the first two webinars focussed on child trauma and public health as well as inclusive education, and upcoming seminars featuring topics such as research dissemination and engaging with external stakeholders.

Engaging Politicians and Policymakers with Charlotte Hill OBE

Charlotte is CEO of the , a charity that rescues surplus food from industry and delivers it to food banks, charities, schools and other programmes across London. Charlotte is formerly Chief Executive of Step Up to Serve; the charity that supported the #iwill campaign 2013-2023 which aimed to get 60% of young people taking part in voluntary and social action work. Charlotte received an OBE for services to young people in 2019.
Charlotte will be speaking about engaging politicians and policymakers in impactful programmes, and combining insights drawn from academia.
Ben Perks, Head of Campaigns and Advocacy at UNICEF spoke on the topic of 'Ending Child Trauma: A population-wide approach to ending the world's costliest public health problem', following his recently authored book Trauma Proof: Healing, Attachment and the Science of Prevention.
As part of the Connecting the Social Sciences Webinar Series, this webinar showcases the 'SEND-first' approach adopted across City of London Academies Trust. Mark Emmerson OBE (COLAT CEO) and Anna Sarchet (Principal, City Academy, Hackey) explain their approach to SEND at school and multi-academy trust levels.

Scott is the Founder and CEO of the and co-host of the , as well as a Senior Research Fellow in the School of Psychology and Counseling at Fairleigh Dickinson University, NJ. A retired U.S. Army Military Intelligence Officer, he has held previous roles at Texas Tech University, US Military Academy West Point, Boston College and the Stockholm Centre for the Ethics of War and Peace.
