Widener recognized students, faculty and staff, and organizations for their outstanding contributions to the campus experience during the 2019 Student Leadership Awards.

Widener recognized students, faculty and staff, and organizations for their outstanding contributions to the campus experience during the 2019 Student Leadership Awards, held on April 24 in Lathem Hall. Organized by the Office of Student Engagement, the ceremony had the theme of Lights, Camera, Leadership!

鈥淟eadership is a lifestyle. It鈥檚 complicated, rewarding, transcending, sometimes ugly, and often requires resiliency from failure. Yet, our students rise,鈥 said Austin Duckett, assistant dean for student life. 鈥淥ur students work to serve others, fight for what is right, and even through their imperfection, still manage to display courage.鈥

Student Leader of the Year: Evan Peters

Student Organization of the Year: Pride Activities Council

Emerging Student Leader Award: Ibirinade 鈥淧riscilla鈥 Adenugba

The Unsung Hero Award: David McCann, Men鈥檚 Rugby Team

John J. Zackowski Chapter Leadership Award: Samirah Thompson, Theta Delta Sigma Society, Inc.

Emerging Sorority Woman Award: Kayla DiMino, College Panhellenic Council (Delta Phi Epsilon)

Emerging Fraternity Man Award: Victor You, Interfraternity Council (Tau Kappa Epsilon)

Fraternal Values Award: Phi Delta Theta Fraternity

Expanding Perspectives Award: A Night at the Museum, Intercultural Greek Council

Outstanding Sorority Woman Award: Tasjah Davis, Intercultural Greek Council (Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.); and Valerie Coll, College Panhellenic Council (Phi Sigma Sigma)

Outstanding Fraternity Man Award: Christian Antisell, Interfraternity Council (Phi Delta Theta)

Student Life Fellowship Award: Dr. Marina Barnett, associate professor of social work; and Kortne Smith, program coordinator for Multicultural Student Affairs 

Best Small Club Award: Bachelors of Social Work Club

Most Improved Student Organization Award: Interfraternity Council

Excellence in Advising Award: Dr. Jeremy Backstrom, assistant professor of political science

Student Program of the Year: Women鈥檚 Leadership Conference, College Panhellenic Council
